Smart Bulk Upload Strategies

Best practices for uploading large amounts of content or getting started with bulk uploads.

Updated over 3 months ago

There are two primary ways to upload to Content Catalog, Upload Content by Drag & Drop or Upload Content Using Batch Export. We'll cover best practices for each in this article.

All Uploads

Note all uploads go through a process of upgrading and parsing for information that varies based on the content and the amount of content uploaded. Please reach out to support if your content has not processed after 24hrs. Please note that content should still be insert-able upon approved upload regardless of processing status.

Upload by Drag & Drop

When using this method you can simply drag and drop files from your file folders on your computer or local network to Content Catalogs Upload Content page.

  • When adding to the queue consider uploading in batches of under 1000 items. While this is not a hard limit, this limits the amount of information you need to manage in the queue prior to uploading like setting tags and notes, as well as minimizing unknown issues that may require reuploading.

  • Once content has been dropped into the que you can navigate to other locations without loosing upload items. Ensure you come back to curate your tags and notes and hit upload.

  • After you select upload please allow the uploads to process until completed before uploading other files.

Upload by Batch Export

  • When batch exporting Content Catalog uses many facets of your computer including keyboard and mouse commands and could even be interrupted by other applications running. therefor it is recommended to not use the mouse or keyboard and close any applications you can prior to this process.

  • While it is possible to export multiple categories at a time, if you experience any issues it is recommended to export a single category at a time.

  • It is also recommended to consider the number items you export that are not savable outside of Revit and limit the number to 50 items

  • Because batch exports utilize Revit to process the content, high performance machines with large memory stores will perform better at this task. (For example a system with 32GB of memory should be able to perform the recommendations listed above)
